SuccessFactors Onboarding – the missing piece of the puzzle?

“Ok, so I am going to tell you about my experience of the Onboarding module in SuccessFactors.

In 2015, we started our SuccessFactors journey and to date we have implemented a number of key modules as part of our innovative HR Transformation Strategy – Onboarding is the last of the modules for us to go fully live with full functionality and it is about to happen very soon (after an initial go live last September).

Whilst we have had our challenges with the implementation of Onboarding, I have and always will be an avid champion of this product – at Hovis it is indeed the last piece of the jigsaw in terms of linking Recruiting (Recruitment Management, Recruitment Marketing) to our core employee interface – Employee Central.

Simplification of processes and improving employee engagement are at the core of what we want to do and Onboarding allows the new employee process to seamlessly link and drive a paperless new starter process – which will enable real efficiency for us as a business in terms of a reduction of manual administration tasks.

Getting to engage and “onboard” an employee direct from when they view an advert on our careers site, to going through the recruitment process and being selected to ultimately touching base with their Line Manager from offer stage until day one, allows us to say, Hey – Hovis is a great place to work – you are valued here!

Yes, it has been a long journey, yes I have lost sleep, gained many grey hairs and have wondered ‘Why in gods earth are doing this?’, but I always look at what the benefits of this module will bring to Hovis and that makes the process all worthwhile (and keeps me sane)!

Key learnings from our Onboarding implementation:

  • Always be clear with your Partner about what you want to get out of this module;
  • Know your HR processes inside out and get the right Business Team involved in your concept design workshops;
  • Be prepared to be flexible but also think outside the box and challenge your Partner – you can custom fields etc. and you can get the employee data you require from Onboarding to Employee Central – it can be done!”
